Print Preview

Whenever you are about to print a report, it is a good idea to make sure that it will be printed the way you expect. By using print preview, you can see entire pages to confirm that the output is what you want it to be.

To preview a report before printing:
1. Click the button on the right side of the window.  Legacy builds the report and paginates it as it will be printed.  The first page is then displayed on the screen.

On the Print Preview toolbar, do any of the following:

Click Next to move consecutively through all the pages in the report.
Click Prev to move backward through the report.
Use the horizontal scrollbar below the Prev and Next buttons to move to relative positions within the page range of a large report.
Use the Jump to Page button to move to a specific page.

Under the Print label:
Click All Pages to send the entire report to the printer.
Click Range to pop up a window where you can specify a range of pages to print.  For example, 2-9, or 1,4,8.  You can also print multiple copies and odd and even pages using this option.  See Printing Options for more information.

Under the Zoom label:
Click In to magnify the page up to 400% of normal.
Click Out to shrink the page all the way down to a thumbnail view.
Click Screen Width to adjust the view so that the width of a page takes us the width of the Print Preview window.
Click Whole Page to display an entire page in the window.

Click Create PDF to create an Adobe PDF (Portable Document File) file.  This can be viewed with the free Adobe Acrobat Reader and easily sent to other people by email.  (This feature is part of the Deluxe Edition only.)
Click Copy Page to Clipboard to place a Windows metafile copy of the current page on the Windows Clipboard.
Click Close to exit Print Preview and return to the previous menu.
When previewing book style reports with multiple sections, a dropdown combo box is displayed at the top of the window where you can quickly jump to the various sections directly.

When the displayed page is larger than the window, scrollbars appear that can be used to move around the page.  You can also use the mouse to drag the page right, left, up and down to view the rest of the page.

The Zoom Dropdown
In the upper-left corner of the screen is the Zoom dropdown list.  Here you can choose to view Percentage, Thumbnail, Two-Pages, Whole Page, Page Width, and Stretch.  These are various settings that determine how much of the current page is shown.  If you are using the Percentage option, the percent value to the right is used to determine the zoom level, ranging from 25% to 400%.  The other options are used to display one or more pages at a time and in various sizes.  Legacy remembers the current setting when the Print Preview window is closed and uses this setting the next time you preview a report.

Note:  The Zoom In and Out buttons on the right side of the screen control the zoom percentage of the current page display.  For example, if you are in Whole Page mode (from the Zoom dropdown box at the top), you can still zoom in and out with the Zoom In and Out buttons on the right.  The zoom percentage resulting from the Zoom buttons is not remembered from one report to another.

Note:  The settings for the Print Preview screen are saved in a file called Print.usr in the [My Documents]\Legacy Family Tree\_AppData\Usr\ folder.
