Pedigree Charts
A Pedigree Chart includes an individual and his or her direct ancestors (parents, grand parents, great grand parents, etc.)

To print a Pedigree chart:
1. Choose Pedigree Chart
from the Reports tab on the Ribbon bar
2. Set the options, as described below.
3. Click either Print or Preview to view the report.
Options
Title
The default title is Pedigree Chart. If you would like something different, you can edit the title. You can also embed replaceable fields within the title text. For example, "Pedigree Chart for [name]". The [name] field will be replaced with the person's name when the report is generated. See Report Title Options for a complete list of fields available.
Generation Per Page
Pedigree charts can include four, five or six generations per page. (On a six-generation chart, the sixth generation only has room for the name if you are including boxes around each individual. If the boxes are turned off, there is room for the name and the birth date.)
Total Number of Generations
Setting this number determines how many pages will possibly be printed. If you are printing four generation charts, each successive page will include three additional generations. This is because the last generation on the preceding page is repeated as the first generation on the continuation page. Therefore, you can specify 4, 7, 10, etc. If you are printing five generations per page then you can choose 5, 9, 13, etc. When printing, Legacy fills the first page with the specified number of generations and then prints continuation charts for all lines with more ancestors. More continuations charts are then printed until the desired number of generations is reached. No continuation charts are printed for lines that end within a chart.
Starting Chart Number
You can specify the starting chart number for the first chart printed. All successive charts are numbered consecutively.
Report Options
For a complete list and explanation of all the report options available for this report, including items to include on the report, formatting options, pictures, sources, page setup, headers, footers and font selection, click here.
Note: When printing pictures on a pedigree chart, priority is given to the information text (birth, marriage, death dates and places) over the picture size. If printing a full sized picture takes up room that is needed for the text, the picture is made smaller. If you want a pedigree chart where all the pictures are the same size, you should try the Ancestor Chart in Legacy Charting.
Report Language
You can choose from different languages when generating the Pedigree report. To select a language, click the Report Language button and choose the language file to be used when generating the report. There are many language files available. To reset the language selection back to the default value, click the Reset button.
Note: All the program-produced titles and subtitles and labels and all the dates will be translated but items such as user-enter titles and location won't be translated.
Color Text and Boxes
When printing reports that include boxed information, you can select from four different coloring styles (or none at all). See Custom Box Colors for more information.
Printing a Blank Sheet
If you would like to print a blank Pedigree Chart, click the Blank Report button.
Index Generation
By selecting the checkbox in the upper-left corner of the Index Options button, you can have Legacy generate an alphabetical index for the report and an optional Location index. This is particularly useful when you are printing a large number of consecutively numbered reports. The index includes each person who is shown on each page and what position they occupy on that page. The index can be lined or unlined and printed in one, two or three columns. Click the Index Options button to make changes in the index format. (See Index Options for more information.)
Printing
When you have set all the options, click either the Preview button to see an on-screen view of the report before it is actually printed, or click Print to have the report sent directly to the printer.
For information on the output options, see Report Output Formats.
