Edit Timeline Entry
The Edit Timeline Entry screen is reached by clicking Add or Edit on the Timeline Editor. (See Timeline Editor for more information.)
A timeline event is made up of a description of the event, a date range, and the source of the event information.
Begin by entering the date range for the event. This should include a starting and ending date. If the event was a one-time occurrence and didn't span a range of time, enter the same date in both fields. You can enter a complete date like 7 Dec 1941, just a month and year, like May 1734, or just a year, 1752. After you enter a date, Legacy reformats it to a Year, Month, Day format. If an event spans to the present time, you can enter Present or 9999 into the Ending Date field.
Next, enter the Short Description. This is the description that you will see on the list in the Timeline Editor and is what is printed on Timeline and Chronology reports. It should only be about 80 characters or so because that is all that shows in the list.
Make sure this description makes sense to the user when he/she sees it all by itself. For example, if you are making a timeline for the kings of Denmark, don't just put a name in the Short Description. The user won't know what it means. Put something like: Gorm the Old became the first king of Denmark. Or, Gorm the Old, 1st King of Denmark.
Next, enter the Long Description. Here you can be more descriptive and add extra supporting information. This will show in the detail section of the Chronology report.
The Source of Information is where you document where you obtained the timeline event information.
You can check the spelling of the Long Description by clicking Spell Check.
