Add a Selection to the Focus Group

The Focus Group window is reached by choosing Focus Group from the View tab on the Ribbon bar. It can also be reached from the Miscellaneous Searches tab of the Search window, from the Records to Include in the File box of the GEDCOM and Legacy export screens and from the Report Record Selection window of Family Group Records and Individual Reports on the Select a Report window.

Adding an Individual
To add a specific individual to the Focus Group, click the Add an Individual... button. When the Name List is displayed, select an individual by either double-clicking on the desired name or by clicking on the name to highlight it and then clicking the Select button. The name is added to the Focus Group window.

Adding a Family
A family is considered to be the selected individual and his or her spouse(s) and all the children from the spouse(s). To add a family, click the Add a Family... button. The Spouse List for the current individual appears. If this is not the individual you want to add, click the Change button to the right of the name and select the desired person from the Name List. If the individual has more than one spouse, you can select one of them or all of them by clicking the appropriate button on the right side. You can also include some other extended member of the family by clicking the checkbox next to Include Parents of the Current Individual, Include Parents of Spouses, and Multiple Parents (if linked to more than one set).

Adding a Person's Ancestors
You can include all the direct-line ancestors of the selected individual for a specific number of generations and even include the descendants of those ancestors if you want to include an entire branch of a family.

To select ancestors, click the Add an Individual and Ancestors... button. The Ancestor Options window appears. (See Ancestor Options for more information.)

Adding a Person's Descendants
A person's descendants include the individual's children from every marriage, their children from all of their marriages and so on.

To select descendants, click the Add an Individual and Descendants... button. The Descendants Options window appears. (See Descendant Options.)

Adding an Entire Family Line
This option includes everyone linked to the current individual. This includes all the ancestors and descendants, all the siblings of all ancestors, all the spouses of everyone, all the descendants of all the ancestors and all the ancestors of all the descendants. In other words, anyone who is linked in any way by blood or marriage is included.
