How to Unlink or Delete a Child, Spouse or Parent

There may be times when you want to unlink an individual from a relationship or delete them altogether from the family file.

To unlink a child on the Family View:

1. Right-click the name of the child you want to unlink.
2. From the shortcut menu, choose Unlink From Parents.
3. A box appears showing the father, mother, and siblings to whom the child is currently linked.
4. Click Yes to continue. The child is unlinked as a child and sibling.

To unlink a child on the Pedigree View:

1. From the Pedigree View, highlight one of the parents of the child to be unlinked.
2. From the Spouses/ Children List, right-click the name of the child to be unlinked. From the shortcut menu, select Children's Settings, and the Child of box appears.
3. Highlight the name of the child and click the Unlink button. A box appears showing you the father, mother, and siblings to whom the child is currently linked.
4. Click Yes to continue. The child is unlinked as a child and a sibling.

To unlink a spouse on the Family View:

1. Make sure the spouse is in either the Husband or Wife box.
2. Right-click the spouse you want to unlink and then select Unlink.
3. Choose either From Husband or From Wife from the submenu.
4. A box appears showing the spouse and children from whom the individual will be unlinked.
5. Click Yes to continue. The spouse is unlinked.

To unlink a spouse on the Pedigree View:

1. From the Pedigree View, right-click the person you want to unlink.
2. On the shortcut menu, select Unlink.
3. Choose either From Husband or From Wife from the submenu. A box appears showing you the spouse and children from whom the individual will be unlinked.
4. Click Yes to continue. The spouse is unlinked.

To unlink parents on the Family View:

Unlinking a person from their parents is similar to unlinking a child. From the Family View there are three ways to unlink parents:

The first way is to right-click either of the parent names, select Unlink these parents from Husband (or Wife) and then click Yes to confirm.

The second way is to right-click the husband or wife, select Unlink / From Parents, and then click Yes to confirm.

The third way is to select the Edit tab of the Ribbon bar, choose Unlink / Husband (or Wife) > From Parents, and then click Yes to confirm.

To unlink parents on the Pedigree View:

From the Pedigree View either:
1. Right-click the person you want to unlink the parents from and then click Yes to confirm.
2. Highlight the person. Choose Unlink / Husband (or Wife) > From Parents. from the Edit tab of the Ribbon bar and then click Yes to confirm.
